Semana Santa Estepa

Seville enchants

This place stands out in the Natura 2000 network in Andalusia due to its special importance for the conservation of riverside habitats, some fish species of the Habitats Directive and, in general, the river ecosystem and its essential function of facilitating connectivity as an ecological corridor.

The Metropolitan Green Corridor connects La Corchuela Periurban Park with various municipalities in the Seville Metropolitan Area through two bicycle lanes. This encourages the use of non-motorised transport, without overlooking the significant opportunities for recreational and tourist use, given its landscape quality and cultural and architectural heritage.

The Abrevadero Mine, listed as a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and a Special Conservation Area (SCA), is located in the northwest of Villanueva del Río y Minas.

A multi-species breeding colony of five different bat species has been found in this mine, including the Mehely’s horseshoe bat (R. Mehelyi).

The Cañuelo Park, which takes its name from an old farmhouse nearby, is situated to the south of the Aljarafe Cornice. Its location near the town centre makes it an ideal place to connect with nature and find peace.

The park is located in a municipally-owned farm with the same name, on the northernmost foothills of the Aljarafe Cornice the Aljarafe. The most outstanding feature of this green area is semi-free-ranging farm animals that captivate the youngest visitors. They often come to feed the animals, having become part of a local tradition.

This vast green area owes its name to the groundwater that naturally rises from the subsoil since ancient times: the Aljarafe Cornice. Nestled in the urban centre, it offers a wide variety of spaces and environments to its visitors.

The Brazo de la Torre was one of the three large branches that shaped the River Guadalquivir after the sedimentation of Lake Ligustino, which occupied the entire estuary of the river in Roman times. This branch, also known as the Northwest Branch, is complemented by two other main branches, the Brazo del Este and the Emedio.
