Semana Santa Estepa

Seville enchants

This church combines the Islamic building tradition with the Gothic art provided by the Christian conquerors who came from Castile. The main façade dates back to the second half of the 13th century, with an exceptional stone doorway made up of a pointed arch with archivolts and battens.

The Castle is a Muslim defensive construction located next to 7 km milestone on the SE-140 motorway from Peñaflor to La Puebla de los Infantes. However, chronologically speaking, it belongs to the 12th century Almohad period.

On the site now occupied by the parish church, the former Muslim fortress of the Almohad period was built, the only remaining feature of which is a small piece of wall, located next to the sanctuary of the church, which has a pointed horseshoe arch framed by an alfiz.

This palatial home belonged to the Marquises of La Garantía and is currently owned by Mr. Cárdenas Osuna and Mr. Jiménez Alfaro.

The façade is made of exposed brick, with an elegant 18th century doorway with the coat of arms of the marquisate at the centre. The doorway stands out for its beautiful proportions, design and exquisite workmanship.

The Tower of Gold is a 13th century defensive tower from which a thick chain extended to the other side of the river to cut off enemy ships.

The first phase of construction of the Metropol Parasol revealed visible remains of much of the Roman period, from Tiberius (circa 30 AD) to the 6th century, as well as an Islamic Almohad house from the 12th and 13th centuries.

The Tower of Silver, with an octagonal floor plan, was built in the 13th century by the Almohads and was part of the walls that surrounded the town. It was the end of the walled enclosure and was annexed by a wall to the Tower of Gold.
