Semana Santa Estepa

Seville enchants

This is the highest point in the village. It was likely the location of the first human settlement in the area, as the ceramic and Libyan-Punic coins found appear to suggest. Furthermore, the few remains found of the fortress for which the village is named are located on the hilltop.

The site is a “tell”, a word of Arab origin that designates an artificial mound formed from the accumulated archaeological remains of one civilisation over another.

The Urso Necropolis, commonly known as “Las Cuevas de Osuna”, is one of the most significant archaeological sites in Roman Hispania. It is located to the east of Osuna’s urban centre. The site is home to numerous rock-cut tombs; remains of what must have been an extensive cemetery.

Currently, the Archaeological Area within the Archaeological Site of Carmona comprises, among other things, two remarkable built-up areas from Roman times (between 1st and 2nd centuries). Firstly, the Necropolis, considered one of the largest and best-preserved Roman funeral sites in the Iberian Peninsula, and secondly, the Amphitheatre, a venue used for entertainment.

The El Gandúl complex is located on the outskirts of the city and is considered to be one of the most interesting elements of the city's historical heritage, together with the Castle and the fortified site. The complex comprises the following elements: the Marchenilla Castle, the Gandúl Palace and the Necropolis.

From the lower part of Villanueva del Río and Minas, the route descends further (following a signalled path) to the Huéznar River, crossing it. It is possible to park your car  a few metres ahead of the San Fernando quarter, for example next to the Lago del Mirador.

The bridge consists of a single 4-metre-wide span with an elliptical masonry arch and large brick abutments.

Given the type of arch, it is believed to have been built in the 18th century. It is used as a public road.
