The cavalcade of the Three Kings of Seville, organised by the Ateneo, was first held on 5 January 1918

On the afternoon of 5th January, the excitement of the young ones and not so young ones becomes a reality with the traditional Cavalcade of the Three Kings through the streets of Seville. Floats covered with colour and music, fantasy and illusion are leaving on their way through the streets a shower of sweets, emotions and nervousness as they are so close to the moment when the dreams of the youngest ones will come true, receiving with so much illusion the gifts that were requested from their Majesties the Three Kings. The Herald of Their Majesties will be responsible for visiting Seville on 4th January to request the Mayor's permission for the parade of the Cavalcade through the streets of our town, in the evening of 5th January.

The Cavalcade of the Three Kings of the Athenaeum of Seville is one of the town's bigger festivities. The Athenaeum, independently of its diverse cultural activities, undertakes the preparation and development of this event throughout the year, which becomes a reality every 5th of January.

In its origins, the Cavalcade is due to a manifestation of the religious culture of our people. It is part of the endearing Christmas celebrations and recalls a symbolic Gospel passage.

The Star of Illusion starts the parade through the streets of Seville, which will be followed by themed floats pulled by oxen, mules and tractors. A shower of sweets falls from the floats for the hundreds of thousands of people gathered to watch it go by.

Approximate date
5th January
