Manuela Murube, the cousin of Andres Sanchez de Alva and Otilia Calderon, dedicated much of her life to continue the social projects they started, including the nursing home. She strove to provide good living conditions to the residents. Furthermore, Manuela donated valuable paintings by the Lebrijan painter Antonia Rodríguez Sánchez de Alva to the nursing home. Noteworthy among these paintings are “Saint Francis of Paola”, “The betrothal of the Virgin Mary to Saint Joseph”, “Saint Paul the Hermit” and “Saint Stephen”.

Manuela Murube also founded the all-girls San José School in 1917. This school was run by the Daughters of Charity who managed the St Andrew’s Nursing Home. The nursing home is now a renowned institution.
