The construction of the Shrine to Saint Didacus of Alcalá began in 1967 to house his eponymous statue that anonymously arrived in Almensilla in that same year. The locals raised the necessary funds to buy the land on which the shrine now stands. The first pilgrimage took place that same year. The image of the patron saint was taken in procession to the chapel. The construction was completed in 1968. The two bells that hang above the entrance were christened Diego and Ludgarda.
