Heritage

An immense legacy waiting to be discovered

Legendary Locations

The monumental heritage of our 106 towns is the richest in Andalusia, with almost 300 monuments declared to be Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC). Magnificent cities and towns, whose prehistoric, Tartessian, Roman, Visigoth, Moorish, Mudejar, Renaissance and Baroque remains will amaze you. The Seville of the New World, when Seville was the economic and political centre of the world, with an incomparable heritage that, in addition to the monuments, includes the first species that came from America. The 18th, 19th and 20th centuries have also left their rich legacy in our province with cortijos (farmhouses), oil presses and haciendas, churches, palaces and fine craftsmanship. The Ibero-American Exhibition (1929) and the Universal Exhibition (1992) have added a contemporary heritage to the historical legacy.

Dolmens, necropolises, primitive drawings, Roman engineering (bridges, walls, aqueducts, thermal baths, the Via de la Plata and the Via Augusta, which allowed travel to Rome), Roman and Moorish urban layouts, walls and castles, monasteries, mosques, minarets, churches, basilicas and mills, fountains, palaces and museums. Legendary locations in which world-famous series and films have been shot. And our popular architecture, heritage of the Moorish city, with its streets and medinas, its defence walls and its mosques, later converted into basilicas and churches and often today, into temples of culture. There are many facets to Seville and a treasure in every town. Organise your visit and come back to find out more.
