San Nicolás del Puerto, a paradise in Seville’s Sierra Morena

Do you prefer going to the beach or the mountains? San Nicolás del Puerto has both. This paradise-like town is located in the heart of the Sierra Morena Natural Park. You can enjoy the peace of the mountains, the rush of adventure tourism and the fun of the artificial beach. There is a natural swimming pool by the River Galindón as it passes through the town.

San Nicolás del Puerto has other wonders, including the Huéznar Waterfalls and Cerro del Hierro both declared Natural Monuments. Discover the routes of the Sierra Norte Greenway and admire its beauty. You can travel on foot or by bike or practise an adventure sport for an unforgettable experience. You can choose from rappel and climbing to caving.

If you are looking to relax, this is also the right place. Since the town is small, peace is guaranteed. Enjoy the delicious mountain cuisine, based on game meat and Iberian pork products.

As you can see, San Nicolás del Puerto is a destination that offers something for everyone.

What to see

The town centre is in Plaza de España, where San Sebastián Church is located. This 15th-century Mudejar temple has only one nave.

Continue along Calle Real where the Town Hall is and head towards the Roman Bridge over the River Galindón. From here, you have a good view of the unique artificial beach. Take a dip if it gets too warm.

The Shrine to San Diego is about 12 minutes away by car. It houses the sculpture of the town’s patron saint to whom the Mudejar-style temple owes its name. The pilgrimage in his honour takes place here every May.

Now you can hike or cycle on one of the routes to discover the Sierra Morena Natural Park. There are several from which to choose. The Huéznar Waterfalls Natural Monument is on the Sierra Norte Greenway. The picnic area is perfect for relaxing in the countryside.

You can explore the Natural Monument of karst formations if you take the Cerro del Hierro route. You can go caving. It is also the perfect place to go climbing.
