Semana Santa Estepa

Seville enchants

The building dates back to the mid-sixteenth century and has been occupied by different religious orders. The community of the Minim Friars of St Francis of Paola ran it from 1726 to 1855, when it was handed over to the Congregation of Most Holy Lady of Sorrows and St Philip Neri.

The San Martín Church was built in the Mudéjar style (15th century). Additions were made from the 18th century onwards in newer architectural styles owing to damages caused by the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. The original church was a nave and two aisles, divided by rows of cruciform pillars and pointed arches and semi-circular arches with alfiz.

The Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Parish Church is located in the southern part of the village in the area known as “El Palacio”. It is situated on elevated ground, next to the former course of the River Guadalquivir, with views over the Vega.

The shrine is devoted to Our Lady of the Rosary, one of the patron saints of Burguillos. It is located within La Madroña Park, three kilometres from the town proper, surrounded by nature. It is a place of absolute peace, tranquillity and calm.

This 18th-century Church (1745-1757) owes its name to the image of the Holy Christ of Mercy that presides over the high altar.

The Our Lady of Victory Parish Church is located in the historic centre of Arahal, a few minutes away from other important religious monuments, such as the San Roque Church, the Our Lady of the Rosary Convent and the Blessed True Cross Church.

The Dulce Nombre de Jesús Church is Algamitas’ parish church. The building consists of a single nave with attached pilasters dividing the sections. On the left side are two chapels. The old barrel roof with lunettes over the nave and the dome in the ante-chancel were replaced with a flat ceiling with plaster panels. The current building and the images preserved inside are contemporary.
