Pruna

After crossing rugged areas such as the Conejo hill, El Pintado, El Alcornocal, Las Arenosas and El Pilarillo you come to Pruna, whose name alludes to the prunus plum forests that can be found in the surrounding area. In this area there are archaeological remains from the Neolithic period. The first stable settlement seems to have belonged to the Turduli (Iberians), who founded a village called Callet. There are also Phoenician, Greek and Roman remains.

Its buildings of historical and artistic interest include the church of San Antonio Abad, the Castillo de Hierro (Iron Castle), the Fuente del Pilarillo fountain and the chapel of La Pura y Limpia Concepción. The town is known for its traditionally made local drinks, such as sloe brandy and anisette.

Algámitas

After Pruna you move on to the next town along mountain trails surrounded by landscapes of Portuguese oaks and Mediterranean scrubland. The province's two most important peaks are to be found in this municipality: El Terril, located in the Sierra del Tablón, a limestone block with a very rugged and uneven terrain, and the Peñón de Algámitas. The town was called Silicens in Roman times and Algameca in the Moorish period. Isabel II granted it the title of villa in 1852.

The church of Dulce Nombre de Jesús is an interesting place to visit, and the El Peñón Mountain Resort, set on the slopes of the Peñón de Algámitas at an altitude of 800 metres, offers breathtaking views.
