Declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in 2008.

The solemn feast of the Assumption of Mary takes place on 15 August. This is the most important celebration of the Confraternity.

The Confraternity’s Main Solemn Event takes place at 11 am. The procession with the image of Our Lady of the Assumption takes place at 9 pm at the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Parish Church.

Thousands of faithful and devotees come from neighbouring towns and other places in Andalusia y Spain. In the processional float, Virgin Mary is leaning on a cloud that emerges from a golden tomb and rises to the sky.

The novena begins on the 14th in the afternoon and ends on the 23rd. Noteworthy is the decoration of the altar holding the image of Our Lady of the Assumption, covered with over two hundred candles.

In September “La Subida”

In mid-September, when all church services have finalised, the High Altar is uncovered again. The Venerable Image of Our Lady of the Assumption is then placed in her throne. A fascinating ceremony was devised in 1933 for that purpose. The enthroned image of the Virgin Mary, Lady and Owner of the Parish that bears her blessed name, remains in the High Altar throughout the rest of the year.

The “Simpecado”, known as “La Subida”, was previously taken in procession through Cantillana’s streets on an oxen-drawn silver cart. Also of note is the outdoor event held at the Real de la Alameda, where the locals spend a day together dancing and singing in marquee tents.
