It is located next to the remains of the walls of Seville and the gate of La Macarena, one of the gateways to it.

Its foundation dates from the second half of the 13th century, almost immediately after the town was reconquered by Ferdinand III the Saint, being one of the churches known as Alfonsinas, built during the reign of Alfonso X the Wise.

Belonging to the interesting group of the town's Gothic-Mudejar churches, the apse and the cross section from its first period are still preserved.

Its structure consists of three naves of two sections each one, plus a transverse cruise-like body and a polygonal apse. Inside, it contains 18th century canvases by the circle of Martínez Montañés. It has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest.
