The Plaza Mayor is one of Osuna’s most iconic urban spaces. It is located in the historical and monumental centre of the ducal town, at the foot of the hill where the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria stands. Several main streets -Sevilla, Tia Mariquita, Asistente Arjona, San Antón, Luis de Molina and Carrera- converge here.

With a rectangular, almost square, shape, it is organised like a courtyard around a central fountain with a low basin and a poly-lobed base It provides a focal point from where the pavement starts to form a cross, dividing the central pedestrian area into four symmetrical parts. The square is embellished with ornamental, multi-arm lamp posts on high, carved stone bases similar to a column.

Commonly known as the Alameda, the first democratic Town Council renamed it Plaza Mayor. Nowadays, it is considered the social hub of the city. Several unique buildings of remarkable interest grace the square, including the Municipal Food Market, the Church of the Concepción Convent and the Town Hall.
