La Roda de Andalucía

The town of Roda belonged to the Santiago Commandery of Estepa between 1267 and 1559, and until the end of the 19th century there was a chapel dedicated to Santiago el Mayor on the Malaga road across the river Yeguas on the slope of Calvario. This town is part of the Washington Irving Route, a trade route between the Christian southern peninsular and the Nasrid kingdom of Granada. Its buildings include the parish church of Santa Ana and the chapel of the convent of the Siervas del Evangelio.

Casariche

Winding across the southern edges of the province we come to this town, whose historical origins are to be found among the Celtiberians; it was then that the city of Ventippo was founded, 3 kilometres north of the present town and on the banks of the Yeguas. In the town, you can see the church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, a single-nave Baroque-style building with a Latin cross floor plan, dating from the last third of the 17th century, although it has undergone major alterations and renovations throughout its history.
