The geographical location of the El Gergal Peri-urban Park, located between the lower foothills of the Sierra Morena and the right bank of the Guadalquivir River, has led to the confluence of various interesting natural and cultural attractions in the area, along with a wide range of recreational and leisure activities.

On the one hand, in the peri-urban park you can walk through a typically Mediterranean landscape, with holm oak and Portuguese oak as the dominant species. Pine trees, poplars and cork oaks are also common, as well as Mediterranean fan palms and lavender bushes.

On the other hand, the rivers Huelva and Cala flow nearby, along whose courses are the reservoirs of Gergal, Guillena, Cala and La Minilla. The diverse fauna of these rivers includes various species of fish such as the marine lamprey and the trout. This environment has led to the creation of the Ruta del Agua (Water Route) along the riverbanks, with a length of more than 60 kilometres. Along the route you can carry out activities such as hiking or horse riding. This landscape also features old railroad stations, villages, farmhouses and palaces.
