Sacred Art

The Sacristy of the Nuestra Señora de la Oliva Parish Church, built between the 13th and 16th centuries, was designed by Hernán Ruíz II in 1568. It has been adapted to house a museum of its artistic treasures.

Throughout its almost five centuries of history, the ”Hermandad de la Soledad”  has put together a meaningful and remarkable artistic heritage. The Confraternity is also home to the remains of an important mosaic, dated between the 1st- and 2nd centuries, that appeared during the construction works.

The Santa María Magdalena Parish Church is home to the Museum of Sacred Art. Opened in December 2010, boasts a fascinating collection of liturgical objects. The ceremonial items, treasured throughout the Church’s history, are on display in a designated area of the Church.

The Priory Church of Santa María de la Asunción in Carmona amazes with its magnificent Gothic architecture. Since the 16th century, it has been amassing a treasure-trove of artistic heritage in its museum, which opens onto the Patio de los Naranjos, the remains of the ancient Muslim mosque.

The church of San Juan de Dios has a permanent exhibition area where the processional and liturgical items of the Hermandad de la Amargura are displayed. One of the most noteworthy items is the rich trousseau of the Virgin, made up of jewelry, embroidered skirts and gold and silver crowns.

The Sanctuary dates back to the early 16th century when Antonio Barrados obtained permission to build a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Consolation. The titular image was gifted by the Nuestra Señora de la Antigua Convent. On 31 March 1561, the chapel was transferred to the Congregation of Minimal Fathers. The construction of the convent and church began at that time.
