This is an ancient Christian chapel that may have originally been an Arab mosque of which the mihrab would have been preserved. It has undergone restoration work since it ceased to be used as a prison.
To venerate the patron saint, the Virgen de los Remedios, the chapel was rebuilt preserving much of its original layout, but semi-concealed by other buildings that were built adjoining it. The dome, however, remains almost intact, offering a magnificent testimony of the Mudejar style in which its master builders constructed it. There are no records to accurately indicate its date of construction, leading us to assume that it must have been after the 13th century, when the whole region passed into Christian hands.
