Smokestack Tower

Brenes is a Sevillian municipality very close to the capital. Its cuisine is very well known, in particular migas, snails and confectionery. The most representative buildings are the Mudejar-style Inmaculda Concepción Church and the Shrine to San Sebastian, the seat of the Confraternity of the Captive. Despite its agricultural background, the town became industrialised in the 19th century, with the arrival of the railway. The Torre del Molino at Hacienda San Sebastián and the smokestack towers are architectural examples from that period.

The Industrial Revolution, which affected the entire world, brought factories to Brenes. This smokestack, which belonged to a brick factory, was attached to a kiln used to burn the materials.
Today, the factory no longer exists, but the tower bears witness to those days.
