Villaverde del Río-Iglesia Parroquial de la Purisima Concepcion
Purísima Concepción Parish Church

The Church was built in 1755 over a 14th-century temple that was destroyed by the so-called Lisbon earthquake. The reconstruction was paid for by the Archbishop of Seville. The temple owes its current appearance to renovations undertaken in the early 19th century.

Santiago el Mayor Church

Santiago is profoundly linked to Utrera’s origin as a city. The original church that stood opposite the Castle was the heart of present-day Utrera. According to the chronicles, the primitive church of Santiago was looted in the second half of the 14th century by Mohamed V of Granada.

San Pedro Church

The San Pedro Church was built in the 15th century on the site of the original Shrine to the Virgen de la Antigua. Its baroque appearance is due to later modifications. The main altar was lost to a fire on 2 December 1984. Highlights include its wonderful baroque dome.

Purísima Concepción Church

This Mudejar-style temple was built in the early 15th century. In 1758, the pillars and pointed arches were replaced with Tuscan pillars and semi-circular arches. The side doors were opened at that time, and the tower was renovated. The three-nave temple is divided into five sections with a square-ended presbytery. The naves have half-point arches supported by Tuscan columns.

Santa María de la Mesa Church

The church was declared a National Historic and Artistic Monument by Decree of 2 February 1979 (BOE of 9 April 1979). The temple, dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption, is commonly known as Santa Maria de la Mesa because it stands on a hill.

Town Hall Clock

The clock that keeps time for the residents of Almensilla is set into the Town Hall’s bell tower. This handcrafted clock was made in the late 19th century and is still in good working order. The clock has continued to work perfectly to this day due to routine maintenance.

Santa María de la Estrella Church

This is the oldest church in the town. It is listed as a Site of Cultural Interest. It was built in the Mudéjar-Gothic style in the late 13th century with baroque additions. The church consists of a nave and two aisles covered by a wooden coffered ceiling. The polygonal chancel with a vaulted ceiling occupies the apse.
