As with other towns in Aljarafe, Mairena del Aljarafe was initially an Arab farmstead. Several buildings from its agricultural past have been preserved, including the haciendas that played an essential role in the town’s olive-growing history.

The charming town of Almensilla sits on the Mosto Route. Located on a plateau in the south of Aljarafe, the origins of this Sevillian town can be traced to a farmstead belonging to the Arab landowner Serra al-Mensi. Even today, some of the centuries-old haciendas built for harvesting olives and producing olive oil still stand.
