San Juan de Dios Hospital Chapel

In the pedestrian high street of the town, Mesones Street, stands this Chapel of the old Charity Hospital, now a nursing home run by the Mercedarian Sisters.

The impressive pictorial decoration from the 18th century makes this Church an artistic landmark. The Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Church was completed in 1646. It has always had strong ties with the Real Hospital de Pobres Enfermos de la Asunción, a charity hospital.

Santa Resurrección Hospital

The Holy Resurrection charity hospital has never ceased to assist any petitioner in its five centuries of history, as advocated by Juan Ponce de León, and set forth by his mother Catalina de Perea in her will in 1522.

Church of the Old Hospital of San Juan de Dios

The origin of this former hospital institution and later convent, dates from the early fifteenth century.

Shrine to El Cristo de la Misericordia

The Shrine is located in the former Hospital de la Misericordia. This small rectangular building has two sections separated by a pointed triumphal arch. It has only one entrance at the foot of the Epistle side of the temple. The entrance is framed by an alfiz and topped with a cantilevered cornice. A brick belfry stands at the apse of this same side.

Encarnación Monastery

The Monastery of the Incarnation was built in 1549 as the Charity Hospital of the Incarnation of the Son of God. In 1612, it was occupied by the Jesuits. In 1626, the 4th Duchess of Osuna founded the Monastery on the site of the old charity hospital. The monastery was run by the sisters of the Royal and Military Order of Mercy.
