Cascadas del Hueznar

Seville enchants

Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1985.

The Alcázar de la Puerta de Sevilla is located at the Plaza de Blas Infante. The Alcázar or fortified palace stands over the Puerta de Sevilla, making the compound virtually unassailable.

On a 300 m. high hill in the very centre of the town, stand the ruins of a medieval castle, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

This is a Muslim castle, probably Almohad or even earlier. It was transformed and adapted as a residence for the Lords of Fuentes between the 15th and 16th centuries. In the early 14th century, King Alfonso XI bestowed the Castle upon Alvar Pérez de Guzmán.

The name "Castillo de Hierro" (Iron Castle) refers to the difficulty involved in conquering it, since its double wall, the thickness of its walls, the absence of a gate, two cisterns and the steepness of the rock made it impregnable. The building, which served as a refuge for the citizens of Pruna, is located on the highest part of the rock and this gives the town its name.

This old Muslim fortress is a listed National Monument. The Aguzaderas Castle is located about 3 km from the town of El Coronil.

The Castle has a quadrangular compound with four towers at the corners and two semi-circular ones in the middle of two of its walls. The imposing Homage Tower has two spacious rooms.
