Cascadas del Hueznar

Seville enchants

The origins of these gardens go back to the reign of Al-Mutamid, famous monarch of the Taifa kingdom of Seville, and their name comes from the lagoon that was located there, "al-buhayra", where he would place a series of recreational gardens that later on and under the mandate of Abu Yacub Yusuf would be extended with thousands of olive trees, vineyards, fruit trees and palm trees.

The name of the Las Sirenas Civic Centre (the Mermaids) comes from the Egyptian sphinxes that were located at the entrance to the house, which were associated by the neighbourhood with figures from Greek mythology, naming it “The House of Mermaids".

The Casa de las Columnas is located in the centre of the Triana neighbourhood, specifically on Pureza street, opposite the apse of the Santa Ana parish church, near the Altozano and San Jorge castle, the convents of Nuestra Señora de la Salud, San Jacinto and Nuestra Señora de los Remedios.

Different cultures and civilisations settled in this olive-growing estate of artistic interest. It borders to the south with Valle Blanco, next to the Porzuna Stream, and to the north with the San Juan-Palomares road.

This Hacienda started as a stately house in Espartinas in the 18th century. It grew in size as adjacent properties were purchased until it became what is considered a hacienda at that time, such as the Hacienda de Mejina or the Hacienda de Tablante. The building is commonly known as the Casa de las Monjas (House of Nuns).

This building has been classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest since 1995. In the early 18th century, Archbishop Luis de Salcedo y Azcona decided to build a palace on top of the pre-existing building. Apparently, the new building was almost totally destroyed in a fire that occurred on 27 February 1792.

The most important buildings of Hacienda Ulloa have been completely renovated and given a new use that bears no relation with its former purpose. It now belongs to the Palomares del Río Town Council, which has assigned different uses to its various buildings. Overall, the complex is a civic and cultural centre.
