Santiago el Mayor Church

Santiago is profoundly linked to Utrera’s origin as a city. The original church that stood opposite the Castle was the heart of present-day Utrera. According to the chronicles, the primitive church of Santiago was looted in the second half of the 14th century by Mohamed V of Granada.

San Pedro Church

The San Pedro Church was built in the 15th century on the site of the original Shrine to the Virgen de la Antigua. Its baroque appearance is due to later modifications. The main altar was lost to a fire on 2 December 1984. Highlights include its wonderful baroque dome.

Nuestro Padre Jesús Chapel

This is an 18th century chapel, built around 1716, on the site of an earlier church. It is built in a simple Sevillian baroque style with a single nave with a hemispherical dome, main altarpiece, choir-belfry and access to the sacristy and brotherhood house from the nave itself.

It has a simple two-section baroque belfry crowning the main façade (Restored in 2011).

Church of San Sebastián

Located in the Plaza de España, the church is a Mudejar-style building with a single nave and simple exterior appearance dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. It has a Gothic doorway from 1400, renovated in 1500. On its façade the remains of a Corinthian style column can be seen.

San Francisco “El Nuevo” Chapel

The Jesuits came to Utrera and founded a convent with a school. The Rodrigo Caro School stands now on that site. All that remains is this church, known as St Francis the New, the sacristy and the meeting room.

San Pedro Apóstol Parish Church

The San Pedro Church has a white façade and a welcoming interior. Built in 1859, it was restored in 1998 with funds from the Archbishop of Seville, Coripe Town Council and generous donations by parishioners. However, the baroque dome of the former building and the old chapel of Carmen, now the Tabernacle, still remain.

Santa Clara Conventual Church

The Marquises of Estepa founded the Convent in 1599 when one of their daughters entered the cloister.

The temple was founded later, in 1621. The 17th-century mural painting and the main altarpiece in Baroque-Solomonic-style are worthy of note. As is typical in a convent, it consists of a single nave covered by a half-barrel vault and an ante-chancel with a dome.
