Casa de Postas

The Casa de Postas, coaching inn, is the most important civil building in La Luisiana. It has been afforded the highest degree of statutory protection. Its name derived from its intended use many years ago.

Coaching inns were vital for keeping society connected. During the 16th and 17th centuries, Spain had a well-established postal service. Although it was a public service, it was primarily used by royalty and government officials. Given its limited availability, it was reserved for a few select people.

This two-storey building was erected in the late 18th-century. It is the finest baroque building in the colony.

The building was unequally divided into two parts. The first part has been extensively modified and serves as a bakery and a dwelling. The second is in a better state of conservation and has a beautiful inner courtyard with superposed galleries bounded by Tuscan columns, which support semi-circular arches.

The building is a municipal property and has been temporarily loaned to the Guardia Civil.
