San Miguel Church

The temple is somewhat removed from the town’s walled historic quarters. When it was built in the 15th century, it was meant to be a shrine to the Archangel St Michael.

Although it has a core area that is Mudejar, it has undergone multiple renovations, especially in the 18th century, when the choir’s side chapels were added.

The tower was built in the neo-classical period, as were the portals, despite the date engraved in one portal -1964- that must refer to a restoration.

The Tabernacle chapel, richly decorated with abundant baroque elements, is covered by a splendidly embellished dome. Its main altarpiece has estipites and a central niche –today a small chapel above the altar- that holds a sculpture of Jesus the Nazarene from the mid-18th century. The painting of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary, from the second third of the 17th century, has a frame decorated with rocaille.
