Dulce Nombre de Jesús Church

The Dulce Nombre de Jesús Church is Algamitas’ parish church. The building consists of a single nave with attached pilasters dividing the sections. On the left side are two chapels. The old barrel roof with lunettes over the nave and the dome in the ante-chancel were replaced with a flat ceiling with plaster panels. The current building and the images preserved inside are contemporary. The Confraternities of El Cautivo and Vera Cruz, which march in procession on Holy Wednesday and Maundy Thursday, respectively, are seated in this parish church.

The patron saint of Algámitas is the Sweet Name of Jesus. The festival in His honour dates back to when Queen Isabel II granted city rights to the village. It takes place on the third Sunday in January.
