It is located in an 18th-century building known as the Casa del Aire. The Museum of Women in Flamenco is the only existing centre of its kind in the world, where visitors can gain insight into the living history of this acclaimed form of art. The museum highlights the importance of women’s influence within this art and renders homage to the memory of Pastora Pavón, La Niña de los Peines, whose mother, Pastora Cruz Vargas, was born and raised in Arahal.

The museum seeks to illustrate the importance of women’s role in all aspects of flamenco, including singing, dancing or playing instruments, as well as other flamenco-related disciplines of art and culture in which women engage.

For this reason, the museum was designed to address four relevant fields of activity:

That is the reason why the museum is a venue that enables cultural dynamics through education and learning activities, research projects and advocacy of socio-economic development.

Alongside the six exhibition rooms devoted to each aspect of flamenco and the memory of its most outstanding figures, the museum has a room designed to combat the objectification of women in the world of the arts. This is achieved through the exhibition and study of a wide selection of famous “coplas” or Spanish popular songs, where this unequal role of women is highlighted within a form of art that is still male-dominated.
